Now that 2015 has finally ended. LOVE that Inside Out ranks so high. That movie is just such a perfect love note to parenthood/childhood. It's still my #1 of the year.
ReplyDeleteGreat list! So glad that Going Clear made it. Your top 3 is in my top 5 as well.
ReplyDeleteVery cool list. Crimson Peak is the interesting one to me. I haven't watched it, yet, but it seems to have appeared on about an equal number of best and worst lists across the blogosphere. Opinions are just all over the map on that one. Sounds like the film I most need to see to make up my own mind. Great job!
ReplyDelete@Fisti-It deserves to be in the top 5 as it is one of the best films of the year.
ReplyDelete@Luke-Nice. Going Clear is a film everyone should see. Maybe it will stop the idiocy that is Scientology.
@Wendell-People had high expectations for Crimson Peak but I didn't as I was maintained low expectations in what del Toro wanted to do as it's just this beautiful Gothic haunted house film with a sense of danger.
Great list! There's a few that will make my top 10 as well, and others that I haven't seen. I love the inclusion of Going Clear. That was such an informative documentary. I kind of forgot about it being a contender since I watched in on TV instead of in a theater.
ReplyDeleteStil one or two films I need to check out including Going Clear. Did you ever see the BBC paraorma episode where John Sweeney completely snaps because of the constant harassment?
ReplyDeleteI'll be seeing The Hateful Eight soon (it's not out yet for UK viewers).
Nice to see some love for Crimson Peak.
@Brittani-I counted Going Clear based on the fact that it premiered at the Sundance Film Festival despite the protests from Scientology and that it would play on HBO despite more protests. It is a great doc.
ReplyDelete@Myerla-I heard that episode as some of it is shown on the documentary where the man who Sweeney confronted does speak as he said that was the moment where he realized that he needed to leave Scientology and at a great price where he was disconnected by his own family. I'm glad someone else here loves Crimson Peak here.
Awesome stuff! I'm still processing The Hateful Eight. I was lucky enough to catch the 70mm Roadshow, and it was perfect to look at. Something about it turned me off though. I HAVE TO see it again to make a real judgment I think.
ReplyDeleteInside Out, Spotlight, and The Force Awakens all made my unofficial top ten as well. Check it out if you have the time.
@Kevin-I was able to process it in my head as I feel like it's an important film as I was happy to see it in that presentation.
ReplyDeleteSeeing your list, I noticed you have It Follows which I also saw this year but I'm counting it as a 2014 film since it played in festivals during 2014. I hope to see the other films you put in your list as I like what you have.
Great to see Inside Out, Mad Max, The Force Awakens, and Mistress America in your top 10, I enjoyed those as well. We get Hateful Eight, Spotlight, The Revenant and a few other award films a bit later over here.
ReplyDelete@Chris-Oh, cool. I hope you see The Hateful Eight in 70mm as I think it's the format to see with this kind of film.
ReplyDeleteLooking at your list there are quite a few movies in there which will be released over here soon, so already have some potential top 10 movies for my 2016 list ;) And yeah...Aloha wasn't very good!
ReplyDelete@Nostra-I wouldn't say it wasn't very good. You're being too nice. Aloha is just absolutely fucking shit.
ReplyDeleteVery nice list of films. I was not big on the Cobain documentary as most seem to be, but I think it just caught me in the wrong mood. Might try and give it another go in the near feature.
ReplyDelete@Courtney Small-I was more attached to it personally because I was a fan of Nirvana as I was sucked into it. I'm not sure if it works for you but if it still doesn't, I understand.
ReplyDeleteGreat list. Oh man, I love that Love cracks the Top 5. I think you and I are the only bloggers in our community who enjoyed that film so much. It absolutely floored me.
ReplyDelete@Alex-I think the reasons we're the only ones that liked it because we knew what we were going to see but also know that it was going to be personal and I do love that film.
